- Coolest Rock N' Roll Anecdote: In the fall of 1977 I was touring the country with Frankie Valli. While waiting to board our flight at Chicago's O'Hare airport we were informed that we would be delayed for 2 hours. This gave me and band mate Tim Breen the opportunity to take a walk and have a smoke. Remember this was long before all of the security restrictions we are now faced with at our airports. So we went outside and looked for a secluded place to fire one up. We found the perfect place and proceeded to light up. I had my saxophone on my person and Tim his guitar. It was obvious that we were musicians. Soon after lighting up a rather stately older gentleman was slowly approaching us. We put out the joint and quickly lit up a couple of camels. The gentleman was now upon us. With a warm and friendly smile he said to us.... "Cats! I thought I smelled reefer?" It was the great Dizzy Gillespie. We put out our camels and smoked one of his!
- Craziest Tour Story: In 1968 on the road with Dion Dumucci… “The Wanderer” had a day off so I drove from Meridith, NH to Fenway Park – about 70 miles. Got to the park…sold out and couldn’t get in. A man walks up to me and my buddy and hands us 2 tix. He says it’s too hot for him. We end up on the Red Sox’s dugout! It was my first time at Fenway! And the Red Sox lost.

- Best Conan Story: OK – you asked for it. Conan has made it clear on countless occasions that I am the only band member he respects. It seems that 2 or 3 times a month he will barge into our rehearsal room and remind the band that. Quote: “Jerry is the only one I respect.” My bandmates laugh in his face…he goes away. This has been going on for years. Other than this, Conan gives me no attention at all.
