Conan Busts Chris Hardwick For Playing Pokémon Go On Stage

Chris moderated the Pokémon Go panel at Comic-Con®, and can't seem to let it go, even on air.

TranscriptCHRIS: I'll just keep this open right here. CONAN: You never know when one will show up. CHRIS: You don't! That's what's great about Pokemon. CONAN: Do you know all the ones to look for? CHRIS: I know the ones that I don't have. But they're regionals. You'll get different ones here than what you get in New York and Europe or Asia. CONAN: There was a guy that just spent all of his time traveling -- maybe he only got the ones in the United States or all the ones in the world? That's impossible. CHRIS: I would imagine at that point that the company is like who has captured who? And they capture them in a ball. I'm level 18. CONAN: Means nothing to me. I don't know what you're talking about. CHRIS: Team mystic! Team mystic! [Cheers and applause] CONAN: Alright. Now, you say that you like Pokemon because it -- it's a game that keeps you physically active as opposed to -- we all know the sort of cliche of the gamer who is sitting on his couch vacant eyes not moving. CHRIS: First of all, that's what I tell my mom and my fiance, like, it's for fitness. It's just getting me out of the house, you know? ANDY: I'm practically at a gym. CHRIS: I am practically at a gym. Team mystic. But gaming is very isolated because you're home. I play R.P.G.'s and you can play 40, 60, 70 hours of that. With this, it really does. I makes the nerds wipe the crust out of their eyes and go out and talk to other people. CONAN: It makes them walk in front of a bus. People falling off cliffs left and right. CHRIS: No -- CONAN: There's a gorable! Ahhh! [APPLAUSE] CHRIS: The thing is you can't blame the app for that, you still have to live like a responsible human being. CONAN: But some of them haven't gone outside ever. And so they go out -- CHRIS: So they don't know about cars? CONAN: Great disk and sky on fire. CHRIS: Oh, my God! Land whale! CONAN: What do they know? They don't know anything. CHRIS: This was all happening at comic-con. CONAN: You moderated like 10 panels at comic-con. CHRIS: Yes. CONAN: And you moderated a Pokemon panel. What happens at a Pokemon panel? You can't even look at me right now. You're on television on a show and you keep looking down to see if gurgleplecks -- ANDY: If we were at dinner at a restaurant my wife would take that away from me. CHRIS: It put me in the unique situation where I had to apologize to two women in a yogurt shop that I was not photographing their children. [Laughter] So I learned to turn -- ANDY: They're creatures. CONAN: I'm here to catch the little ones. CHRIS: I mean. I promise -- I'll give them candy. CONAN: Now, I'm doing it. CHRIS: We did a panel with John hanky who run this is. They had no idea -- they knew people were going to be into it but they didn't know how explosive it would be. CONAN: Because when they planned it it was probably two months ago and the thing blue up -- blew up in the last couple of weeks to the point where most people in the world are not making eye contact with each other. They're playing this game. CHRIS: I don't know what you're talking about, Conan O'Brien. Son of a bitch. Stop it. I was oriented the right way. I will snap that finger. They though they were going to be in a small room, and then All of a sudden they found out it blew up. They went into hall H. And you saw the people there. CONAN: No one had showered in a year. CHRIS: Their own society. People clean each other during the panels, recycle all the waste. But we -- so people were there. And I think they were expecting some sort of an announcement -- there's going to be a legendary Pokemon which niantic never said. Scoip you had like a lot of people show up to a convention thinking we're going to see a new creature in the room and they didn't have a creature. CHRIS: Right. They didn't have a creature. CONAN: Didn't they panic at the last second and throw a red pillow out there.
