CONAN Highlight: While shooting an "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" scene, the only way Danny would wear tighty-whities is if Charlie slipped them on him personally.
CONAN: Let's talk about the great Danny DeVito.
Was it season two that he joined the cast?
CONAN: What does he bring to the show?
He's fantastic on the show, but why?
Is it a good question because the rest of you, it feels very much like you are of a piece, then there's Danny DeVito in the show.
It works brilliantly.
He's hilariously funny, his character is fantastic.
It all works but you wonder how did you get Danny DeVito?
Charlie: We still ask ourselves that question, and him almost every day.
Why are you doing this?
Why would you do this to yourself?
Glenn: You've had such a great career.
Charlie: Why do go out like this?
Charlie: Let me go out with a whimper.
CONAN: I think we have a still of Danny from the -- there he is.
Does he ever say no, I'm not doing it?
And draw the line?
Charlie: He loves doing the show and he loves being part, and he really has done crazy things.
He's jumped out of a couch naked before when we asked him to do it.
This last season was the first time he ever was like, eh -- he wanted him to be stuck in a coil in a playground.
And we wanted him to be in his underwear.
Actually we wanted naked, but in his underwear would be funny and we wanted tighty whities and he came to the set in boxer briefs and I said, "Danny, I really want you in tighty whities, it would be funnier.”
He finally relented, but his one condition was that I put them on him.
I think we have a clip of that.
CONAN: We have a clip.
Oh, it's good.
Let's take a look.
Danny: Charlie, you want to put the things on?
Charlie: Oh, no, you didn't!
Danny: The black shorts do not work.
Danny: Pull it up.
Don't linger on it.
I'm telling you.
Charlie: Oh, shit, we've got to do this again!
Danny: There we go.
[CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]
ANDY: The only thing that would have been better is if there had been children in the background.
Glenn: There were!
